As a 24-year-old recent college graduate, David founded Dibble Electronics with $5000 in an old warehouse and built it into a $10M business. He was an early adapter in the quality movements of the late 1970s and early 1980s, with the world’s #1 quality guru, W. Edwards Deming, and MIT’s esteemed Peter Senge as his early influencers. He became known as an expert in the field, was president of the San Diego chapter of the Council for Continuous Improvement and often spoke to business groups about the practical implementation of quality and systems principles in business.
His life’s work turned out to be the creation of new model for Systems-Based, Bottom/Up, Front Line Driven Transformation of the workplace, including the systems in healthcare where care is actually delivered. This model is reveled in the latest of his five books, The New Agreements for Leaders. The engine for implementation of this new model is Nobel Prize winning systems science, embedded in his 7 Tools for for front line workplace transformation. He has, for nearly 15 years, been consulting with and training front line care providers in healthcare in the implementaton of his new model for genuine transformation. Results have, in many cases, been unprecedented.
My dad, a tuna fisherman, fostered my love of the sea and waves. I’ve been a surfer for 60 years and a bad golfer for 57 trips around the sun. Although I had a few opportunities to play on the big stage, family has come first for me. Linda, my wife of 49 years, is beautiful inside and out. We have grown children who are well adjusted and good people, which is about all a parent can ask these days.
For reasons still unclear to me, our kids appear to like us. We moved to Napa to be closer to the kids and grandkids and I’m being forced to learn how to drink fine wine from something other than a gallon jug.
People say I’m funny and I admit to loving a good laugh. I believe wisdom is earned and more useful than knowledge. I’m kind to animals and living things in general except for mosquitoes. I have kept Linda up for hours as I hunted down and put to death a single mosquito that had violated the no fly zone that is our bedroom
